Research Activity

Currently >30 CTIMPs are co-sponsored by NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh and approximately 80 studies are hosted. A number of Phase I studies are conducted within the Phase I accredited clinical research facility.  We have around # active commercial clinical trials in a broad range of therapeutic areas.

Regulatory Compliance

Regulatory and ICH GCP compliance is managed by ACCORD, providing QA, monitoring and pharmacovigilance services. The University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian have undergone successful MHRA GCP Inspections and work to support high quality trials meeting regulatory standards. 

Patient Recruitment

Recruitment is achieved by a variety of approaches, including via network and speciality databases, existing disease registers, research registers, outpatient clinics, primary care and adverts, supported by the Champion Support Manager. Commercial studies also benefit from two commercial research coordinators and a trial support officer.

Clinical Research Imaging Facilities

Edinburgh Imaging is a virtual hub of expertise on medical imaging, pre-clinical imaging, microscopy and imaging science education.

We have outstanding imaging facilities and one of the largest academic radiology teams in the UK.  By working closely with our world class clinicians and scientists, we aim to enhance the quality of life for patients and create solutions to disease, through our medical imaging research, our NHS clinical service and our online education programmes.
