Health Innovation South East Scotland launches new website to better connect innovators, clinicians and researchers across the region

Health Innovation South East Scotland (HISES) has launched a new website designed to make it easier for innovators, clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and partner organisations to navigate Scotland's health innovation ecosystem, access specialist support and accelerate the journey from idea to real-world impact.

The new platform provides a digital gateway to South East Scotland's innovation community and showcases the region's role within Scotland's national network of NHS Regional Innovation Hubs.

As the NHS Regional Innovation Hub for South East Scotland, HISES supports innovation across NHS Lothian, NHS Fife and NHS Borders while contributing to a coordinated national innovation ecosystem spanning all territorial NHS Boards across Scotland. The new website provides greater visibility of this support, helping innovators, clinicians, researchers and industry partners understand how to access expertise, partnerships and practical guidance throughout the innovation journey.

The new website, which is live from 4 November 2026, replaces the previous HISES web presence with a significantly enhanced digital experience designed around the needs of the people and organisations HISES supports.

For the first time, visitors can navigate dedicated pathways tailored to HISES's core audiences, including innovators and start-ups, clinicians and NHS staff, researchers and academics, helping users quickly identify relevant opportunities, services and routes to collaboration.

A key feature of the new website is a searchable and filterable Innovation Projects Library, providing access to active and completed projects from across NHS Lothian, NHS Fife and NHS Borders. The library offers a single point of access to examples of innovation activity taking place across South East Scotland, enabling users to explore projects, identify areas of interest and better understand the impact of innovation across the region.

Among the website's standout features is a new interactive Innovation Framework, a practical guide that enables users to explore every stage of the innovation journey, from identifying unmet needs and generating ideas through to development, testing, evaluation, adoption and scale-up. Visitors can discover what happens at each stage, the critical questions to consider, the support available and the outcomes required to progress successfully. By making the innovation pathway more transparent and accessible, the framework helps innovators navigate complexity with greater confidence and clarity.

The website also introduces a dedicated Innovation Hub Model section, illustrating how HISES brings together NHS organisations, academia, industry, public sector partners and people with lived experience to create the conditions for successful innovation. The model demonstrates how collaborative partnerships, evidence generation, evaluation, adoption support and system-wide engagement work together to move innovations from concept to implementation and impact.

Together, the Innovation Framework and Innovation Hub Model provide visitors with both a practical roadmap and a strategic understanding of Scotland's health innovation ecosystem, helping users identify where they are on the journey, who can support them and what steps are needed to achieve meaningful impact for patients, populations and health and care services.

The website also includes expanded information on funding opportunities, events, innovation resources, partnership opportunities and the HISES team, bringing together the full breadth of support available through the regional health innovation network.

The new website was developed collaboratively with colleagues across NHS boards and partner organisations. Feedback from stakeholders played an important role in shaping the site's content, structure and user experience, ensuring it delivers a more accessible and intuitive platform for users.
